Eldredge’s New Book
June 27, 2008
John Eldredge made a huge splash in the Christian “man” world with his incredible book “Wild at Heart”. His latest book, “Walking with God”, is a refreshingly different book, but with some Eldredge-specific themes. Imagine if you were given the chance to read this guy’s diary, written over a year? That’s exactly what this book is. It’s his diary, sprinkled with advice on how to walk with God in the day-to-day. It’s amazing. This is one of those books I’d simply one-click from Amazon. While you’re at it, make sure and pick up the workbook too. Just when the church tries to pull me back into a formula-based Christianity, Eldredge always shows up at the right time and reminds me that it’s an adventure without too many solid formulas. I love that about him. Just stop reading and buy the book!
Pastor Ed Young’s Rant
June 16, 2008
Ed Young is the gifted pastor of Fellowship Church. Recently, he sat on the steps of his church stage, and talked to people about “Pirates”. Please check it out below, and post your thoughts and comments. As an ex-pastor, I understand what he’s saying. But as someone who is beginning to embrace Christ’s “Big C” Church, I’m struggling, even angry.
New Staff
June 16, 2008
Our good friend - Judy Blackwell - has joined the staff team at Floodgate. She’s with us at Echo, so go to our booth and introduce yourself to her. Be nice, and bring gifts. Judy is coming off a position at our church, where she served for three years as Creative Arts Coordinator. Judy is the kind of person who you just want around you. She is diligent, creative, and great at administration. She is patient, and is really good at asking the right questions. We are so very excited to be spending more of our days with Judy in them. While the position is only a summer one, we’re praying that this position continues for a lot longer.
Floodgate Receives Recognition
June 11, 2008
Last Friday night, we were honored to receive recognition for a donation, given to The Children’s Education & Therapeutic Resource Fund. The donation will help a family with a physically challenged child travel out of the State for special medical care. The medical facility offers state of the art treatment for this rare disease. We pray that this is a life-changing event for this wonderful family, and are honored to be a part of this.

Evil Urges
June 10, 2008
So I have been listening to the latest album from My Morning Jacket (One of my favorite bands of late) on their My Space for a while now, and just downloaded the album from iTunes. It’s such a good album. It continues on with some of the directions that they started to follow on Z as well as adding to some of their previous sound.
When I first heard MMJ, I was a bit confused. I would hear a particular song on the local college radio station, such as Gideon, that lead me to believe that they were a jangly modern-rock outfit ala U2/Coldplay/etc. Then I would hear something from It Still Moves like Run Thru and think these guys are a total roots based guitar-band with heavy Allman Bros influence. Then I came to realize, they are all this and more. Now they have added some R&B infleunces as well.
After repeated listens and gravitating to certain standout tracks (Evil Urges, Remnants, I’m Amazed) I now keep going back to Smokin’ from Shootin. This track, like Steam Engine from It Still Moves, shows a depth that stays with you for a while. There are certain magical moments when you listen to a particular song or album, and come out just a little bit different from the experience. MMJ has the ability to create such moments.
Also, I am going to see them in concert in S.F. in September. Can’t wait!
New iPhone
June 10, 2008
It happened… yes, yes… Apple released the new iPhone this week. A little sleeker, a few more features. I’d have to say, I’m impressed for sure.
That being said… i am not AT ALL unhappy with my iPhone. I can’t wait for the version 2.0 update that is to be relased soon. Along with that, all the new developed applications.
The real test is going to be wether our not i can refrain from buying a new iPhone “just because”… hahaha. Here’s hoping!
Everything Is Illuminated
June 8, 2008
Director: Liev Schreiber
Starring: Elijah Wood
Based on the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, Everything Is Illuminated is the directorial debut of actor Liev Schreiber(of Scream trilogy fame).
In Everything Is Illuminated, Elijah Wood plays Jonathan Foer, a Jewish American who is looking for the woman who saved his grandfather during WWII.
His quest takes him and his acquired travel companions(his translator, his driver and the drivers seeing eye dog… yes it is as ridiculous as it sounds) on a life changing journey on the search for Trochenbrod, the town he was told his grandfather came from.
Their journey takes them down a path of self discovery that sucked me, the viewer, completely into the story. I was blown away at the ensemble cast and the way they brought this movie to life and caused me to invest in the lives of the characters.
This movie easily made it’s way in to my list of favorite movies. If you have yet to view it, put it at the top of your list, Netflix queue, or whatever you do. Do it… do it… now. Are you still sitting there? GO!
People Gonna Talk

People Gonna Talk
by James Hunter
This album is amazing! This guy takes retro to a whole new level. James Hunter sounds like he stepped right out of the days of Otis Redding or Ray Charles. There is a fresh, clean, natural sound in his voice and the music on the record. Back to the days where everything you heard was what was played. No processing, over dubbing, sampling, etc. This is the perfect album to add to your collection to get this sumer kicked-off right!. Load it on your iPod, get in the car and head out on a nice long drive with the windows down! Wait, gas is too expensive… but, definitely buy the album!
Gangs of New York
June 7, 2008
I watched Gangs of New York last night. I hadn’t seen this movie since 2002, when it was released. I had forgotten almost everything about this movie, so it was like seeing it again for the first time. I absolutely loved it! Daniel Day-Lewis was amazing. I truly can’t think of one thing i didn’t enjoy about this movie. Check it out!
